Welcome to the Humboldt Bay Fire (HBF) website!

HBF has a rich, diverse, and committed history built on more than 150 years of dedicated service to the Community of Eureka. I am very pleased to present you with information regarding our Joint Powers Authority (JPA), and dedicated staff who deliver exemplary fire and emergency services to over 55,000 residents, businesses, and visitors.

At Humboldt Bay Fire our Mission is a commitment to community service through leadership, vision, and integrity

  • Providing quality fire prevention and emergency services at a level defined and supported by the community

  • Promoting community involvement on an individual and organizational level

  • Providing an emphasis on partnerships for training, education and service delivery

  • Planning for the area’s future emergency service needs

We are an "All Risk" department who respond with a solution-oriented team of trained professionals equipped to meet a wide variety of challenges. Our crews are technically proficient in firefighting, emergency medical services, confined space, hazardous materials, water rescue, urban search and rescue, and more. HBF responds to approximately 8,000 calls for service annually spanning a 55.5 square mile area of coverage. Our staff of 60 deploy from 5 strategically located fire stations which provide optimal coverage throughout our jurisdiction, which includes the City of Eureka and the greater Eureka area. We are organizationally and individually committed to serving the community and because we know that our people are our most valuable asset, we actively mentor and develop our personnel. At Humboldt Bay Fire, we truly believe that we are a vital part of the community and that the citizens and their fire department are inexorably linked. The staff's extraordinary level of community involvement, both on duty and off duty, speak to that dedication.

Emergency response is only a portion of our service. We do the best for our community when we prevent emergencies from occurring. We endeavor to reduce risk and increase the resiliency of the community through proactive efforts, which include forecasting, planning, mitigation, and response.

Our department enjoys robust automatic aid partnership with adjacent Fire Departments as well as mutual aid agreements with Fire Departments throughout California. These mutually beneficial reciprocal agreements allow us to deploy efficiently with the ability to offer and receive assistance on larger incidents or during peak periods.

Humboldt Bay Fire stands ready to respond day or night, with efficient and effective service delivered in a compassionate, respectful, and professional manner.
