Fire Prevention Division

The focus of the Eureka Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau is to prevent fires and injuries, and limit the affects of fires and accidents. Our goals are achieved through education, engineering, and code enforcement. Guiding our efforts is a common sense approach, recognizing economic factors, and the needs and desires of the community.

The Prevention Division is lead by a Battalion Chief-Fire Marshal. They are responsible for inspections of new construction and building remodels. They also review construction plans for code compliance and works with other City and County departments to create seamless project development. They assist our investigator cadre and provides for code enforcement where needed. They also coordinate the annual inspections of all businesses within Humboldt Bay Fire's jurisdiction, which are inspected primarily by engine company personnel.

Also assigned to the Prevention Division is the Special Projects/Administrative Battalion Chief. Their duties include not only prevention duties, but also oversee the department newsletter, act as liaison to the Fire Dispatch Center, and oversee the data collection and statistics collection for Humboldt Bay Fire.

The Prevention Division is also staffed by one civilian Fire Inspector. The Inspector conducts inspections of all facilities required by state law to be inspected. These occupancies include care facilities, halfway houses, and apartments. They also provides oversight to our weed and trash abatement program, which, by Eureka Municipal Code, is assigned to the Fire Department.
