Humboldt Bay Fire Community Service

In addition to our fire, medical emergency, and rescue services, Humboldt Bay Fire is very active in our community.

Each year, our personnel both on duty and off take part in fund raisers, special events, and other community events.  Whether it is an event that is put on and hosted by another agency or group, or an event sponsored and put on by Humboldt Bay Fire, we truly enjoy meeting the people that we serve and living our mission statement by being your fire department.

Many of the events Humboldt Bay Fire takes part in are cooperative efforts between Humboldt Bay Fire and the Humboldt Bay Firefighters Local 652.  This cooperation between the department and our labor group serves to give the best possible service, relations, and interaction to our community.

Here are some of the events that our personnel are involved in:

Humboldt Bay Fire Annual Open House:

Each October, coinciding with National Fire Prevention Week, Humboldt Bay Fire hosts an Open house at Fire Station 1 located at 533 C St. in Eureka.  This event allows us to open our “home” to the public to come and learn more about their fire department.

Interactive displays and tours, demonstrations of fire and rescue operations, free food and drink, and raffles are just some of the activities and features of the day.  Those attending will also see the display and demonstration of our 1904 horse drawn steam fire engine, as well as getting the opportunity to meet Cali the Fire Dog.

In addition to learning about your fire department, the main focus of the day is fire safety!  Each year brings a unique theme to Fire Prevention Day ranging from checking your smoke detectors to kitchen fire safety.  One of the biggest services we provide is fire prevention and education, and our Open House is a great avenue to accomplish just that!

Keep an eye out for more information regarding open house as October approaches!

Humboldt Bay Firefighters Local 652 Annual Christmas Toy Drive

Each year, the Local 652 teams up with the Salvation Army to put on the Christmas Toy Drive.  Toys are collected at each HBF Fire Station and at various community events leading up to Christmas.  The toys collected by HBF Firefighters and personnel go towards ensuring that children of families in need do not go without during the holiday season.  The tireless work by HBF personnel in this even serves to bring smiles to little faces and make the holiday that much brighter.

Salvation Army Holiday and Toy Distribution Event

Each year, Humboldt Bay Fire personnel assist with the Salvation Army’s annual food and toy distribution events.  During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the Salvation Army provides food, and during Christmas, toys to families who might not otherwise have the ability to provide them for their families.  HBF personnel, their families, and children assist  with the packaging of the food, and on the day of the distributions, helping to distribute and load cars for those in need.  This teamwork between the two groups is another example of how we strive to help those outside of our normal mission.

Other Community Service:

In addition to the above listed service events, Humboldt Bay Fire helps out in many other ways.  From family clean up of Sequoia Park, to helping clean various community signs, to the participation of our Honor Guard in community events, our personnel strive to be diverse in the community service we provide.

Both on emergency scenes and in being a great community partner, Humboldt Bay Fire is committed to community service through leadership, vision, and integrity.
